PETROL SUPPLIES

PENNY A GALLON OPERATIVE TO-DAY INCREASE IN COSTS (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. As from this morning, motor spirit throughout New Zealand will cost an extra penny a gallon. This announcement was made last night by the representative of the oil companies. Full details of the companies' increased costs were submitted to the Department of Industries and Commerce, which, after close investigation, approved of the increase.

The requisite amending regulations were gazetted last night and take effect immediately. The increase is stated to be entirely due to the depreciated value of sterling in relation to the dollar. The retail price for super grade petrol in Wellington will now bo 2s 5d and 2s 4d for standard grade.
