DIPLOMAT IMPRESSED SERVICE IN FRANCE FAREWELL MESSAGE (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Tress Assn.) , (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 2 p.m. RUGBY, Oct. 23. The retiring British Ambassador to France, Sir Eric Phipps, in a broadcast farewell to the French people, said: “I have always worked for closer relationship between our two countries and now the hour of my departure has come it is good to know that, faced with danger threatening the world, our two countries are as one and that the understanding between our Governments and our peoples is most intimate, most cordial and most confident.
“That understanding must, be perpetuated beyond the common victory, so that it will, be possible to lay the basis of a world where the common law will be understanding and not hate of neighbours.”
