HUNT CLUB MEETING LQVELILT WINS CUP DOZIE BOY DISQUALIFIED HEXTON TO SKYWAY The sensation of the day at the Poverty Bay Hunt Club’s annual meeting at Makaraka was the disqualification this afternoon of Dozie Boy in the Ferguson Gold Cup Hunt Club Steeplechase alter that runner had beaten Lovelilt by a narrow margin. Doric Boy's rider failed to draw the weight when coming in alter his win, and accordingly was ruled out of the race ns'’a result. Lovelilt was accredited with a win in consequence of Dozie Boy's disqualification. At the completion of the third race there was an increase of £1197 on the lotalisator compared with the amount handled last year for the same three races of the meeting.

A Race of Upsets

Five went out to contest the Ferguson Gold Cup Hunt Club Steeplechase, and Dozie Bov. the visitor from Hawke’s Bay, put up a good performance to beat Lovelift, the only other runner to give him a serious tussle, for the big prize of the meeting. However, owing to the disqualification of Dozie Boy the race was awarded to Lovelilt. Seven Seas went out in front at the start, and at one stage led by seven lengths from Royal Stuart, Dozie Boy, Kahunoke and Lovelift. Royal Stuart had a narrow escape at the first jump in the back stretch and Dozie Boy went up into second place. At the four-furlong post jump on the first circuit Seven Seas fell and unseated his ricler, leaving Dozie Boy, Lovelilt. Royal Stuart and Kahunoke in the race in that order. Dozie Boy maintained his lead over the stand double the second time round by a slight margin from Royal Stuart and Lovelilt.

The position was unchanged around the cast bend and Royal Stuart made la faulty jump and unseated his rider at the same fence that brought down Seven Seas. Dozie Boy and Lovelilt were well clear of Kahunoke and fought out a tight finish. Dozie Boy prevailed by a margin of a length and a half and Kahunoke was 20 lengths behind Lovelift in third position as they passed the post. Royal Stuart was remounted and finished the course.

During the running of the race Dozie Boy’s rider, Dcslandes, lost his cap at one of the fences in the straight and weighed in a little over lib short of the correct weight. In consequence the judicial committee disqualified Dozie Boy and awarded the places to Lovelilt, Kahunoke and Royal Stuart in the order named. Mr. Calder, the rider of Lovelilt, thus enjoyed his second win in the Ferguson Gold Cup Steeplechase, having won last year on New Ferry. I Skyway’s Success, In Hie Hexton Handicap, Hunting Mint again justified his unpopularity with the betting public by staying on the mark and conceding the rest of the field about half a furlong. Pennycomequick and Gay ■ Mimic were the first out in a good start, and •Reay Bridge was also well off, but steadied down quickly. Past the stand and out of the straight the order was Pennycomequick, Gay Mimic. Okawa, Raana, Skyway, Reay Bridge and Hunting Mint, the last-named hopelessly out of the running.

Round the back Pennycomequick and 21 lengths on Gay Mimic, and Raana was close up to the latter, with Skyway a close fourth. Okawa made a move near the half-mile and picked up Skyway, who went up alongside Gay Mimic. Pennycomequick faltered a little at three furlongs and began to fall back on the rails, leaving Gay Mimic in front, with Skyway next and Okawa third, Raana being inside and close up to the thre named. Rounding the turn into the straight, Skyway overtook Gay Mimic and after a short tussle pulled away, to win by a length. Raana was strong over the last half-furlong and also got up to beat Gay Mimic, who was third. Okavva was fourth and Pennycomequick fifth. Reay Bridge was making a promising run from the turn when he stopped suddenly at the distance, having broken a fetlock. Hunting Mint •finished last, a long way behind the others.
