MODEL FLYING

GISBORNE RECORD PLANE OUT OF SIGHT LABOUR DAY TRIALS WINNERS FROM WAIROA The Gisborne Model Aeroplane Club’s annual Labour Day competitions were held on *Darton 'Field during the week-end, commencing on Saturday and concluding yesterday. 'Entries were good for all events, although in some a few competitors defaulted after having trouble with their models. Two Wairoa members were present, having with them planes from a number of Wairoa builders, and competitors from the northern Hawke’s Bay club were among the most successful.

A club record was created by the winner of the class for fuselage handlaunch model. The plane soared out of sight, and was clocked for 3min. 30sec. until it disappeared over Makaraka, where it was found and returned to the aerodrome.

'Flying conditions were not of the best, the weather being showery and windy for the most part, although at odd intervals favourable conditions were experienced. The contest director was Mr. G. Cooper, and Mr. J. Wise was timekeeper. Results were as follows: Glider Event.—C. Andrew, 33sec., 1; H. Bissenden, lflsec., 2; V. Sodersten, 16sec., 3. Spar Model, hand-launched.—G.
