SENTENCE DEFERRED

MAN’S INDECENT ACT MECHANIC IN COURT “These cases are ail very difficult and in remanding him for sentence until to-morrow I want a full report on his antecedents and mode of life,"’ said Mr. J. li. Luxford. S.M., this morning in the Police Court after he had hqard evidence in a case in which a mechanic, Seddon Lionel Wilkinson, aged 30, admitted having wilfully and ■obscenely exposed himself last evening 'in Gladstone road.

The accused elected to be dealt with summarily.

In Hie prosecution Detective-Sergeant R. H. Waterson said that at 8 p.m. yesterday a woman was cycling down Gladstone road and had her attention attracted to the shelter shed at the Stanley road intersection by the scraping of feet on gravel. She saw the accused with a portion of his clothing open. /The woman had continued on her journey to a shop and when she returned half an hour later Wilkinson was standing up and trying to attract her attention, still exposing himself indecently. The offence took place just outside the girls’ hostel of the Gisborne High School. The police were informed and Constables M. Teece and E. Wigmore made the arrest

The accused was a married man with three children, aged six, four and three years, continued the seniorsergeant. His wife had gone out to the pictures and had left him home to mind the children. Wilkinson admitted that he had been drinking during the afternoon with some friends, and blamed the drink for his appearance in court.

Asked if lie had anything to say, Wilkinson suggested that a prohibition order should be taken out against him.
