After safely crossing 7000 miles cf waters in the war zone with a valuable cargo of foodstuffs, the Blue Star liner lonic Star went aground in a thick fog on a sandbank 18 miles of! the western coast of England, breaking her back.

The passengers and crew were rescued uninjured. Salvage ships are endeavouring to save some of the cargo. She was inward bound from South America.
