Railway Publicity Photo LANDING ONE OF TWO NEW "J" CLASS LOCOMOTIVES at Aotea quay, Wellington. They were brought from England to New Zealand as deck cargo and were transferred from ship to shore by the Wellington Harbour Board’s floating crane Hikitia. In its present trim the locomotive weighs 62 tons. They are to be Used for the haulage of freight and passenger trains in the principal districts of the North and South Islands.
