POLISH REFUGEES
PLANS FOR AGENCY OFFICIAL ASSISTANCE (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.30 p.m. RUGBY, Oct. 17. The question of the plight of Polish | refugees was raised in the House of | Commons at question time to-day. The; Foreign Under-Secretary, Mr. ! R. A. Butler, answered that although | the statistics were still incomplete the | Government was well aware that large numbers of Poles had been forced by tile invasion to flee. He paid ■ a tribute to the generosity of the ! neighbouring States and referred to : many charitable organisations, both j Allied and neutral, when were devot- ! mg themselves to the study and soluI tion of the problem. Mr. Butler announced that the Government was establishing a central ; agency with Sir Francis Humphreys !at the head, to which all questions ; affecting Polish refugees could be ad- ! dressed and through which any official j assistance or advice could be given.
