REPLACEMENT OF BUS

MUNICIPAL SERVICE INCREASE IN REVENUE MORE HOSPITAL TRIPS The replacement of the No. 4 bus in the municipal service was agreed to by the Gisborne Borough Council last night, when the tender of H.S. Motors, Limited, for the supply of a 2-3-ton chassis was accepted and the quotation of Mr. J. McCullough was agreed on for the reconstruction of the bodywork. The total cost of the completed bus was stated to be £4BO. The bus manager, Mr. K. G. Ball, reported that owing to increased attendances at the Cook Hospital additional trips would be required for the convenience of out-patients. Details were being arranged with the Cook Hospital Board. Revenue for the fortnight ended October 8 showed an increase of Id per mile over that for the corresponding period last year. The manager's report showed that during the past fortnight the average revenue over a total mileage of C2OO was 12.69 d per mile, 29,555 passengers being carried, compared with 11.69 d per mile over 59GG miles a year ago, when the passengers totalled'27,23o.

The borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, estimated that for a cost of £SO two bus shelter sheds could be erected from material from the existing shed at the corner of Chalmers and Childers roads. The council agreed to proceed with the work.
