SWISS APPRECIATION

ALLIES’ WAR AIMS IMPOSSIBLE NAZI TERMS (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGBY, Oct. 16. The following quotation from the Swiss newspaper Gazette de Lausanne further indicates the neutral appreciation of the Allied viewpoint: “That Herr Hitler and the Foreign Minister, Herr von Ribbentrop, could believe that the destruction of Poland would not be followed by armed intervention of the Western Powers indicated disconcerting optimism. That sane men could suppose that France and Britain would endorse their action by accepting a temporary renewal of peace is outside normal politics and required special mentality. Herr Hitler’s peace proposals were plainly unacceptable and a negative reply was inevitable. The British Prime Minister, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, and the French Premier, M. Daladier, agree that Germany's aim is the domination of Europe, that the alarms it gives rise to at regular intervals become intolerable,''and that the struggle against this must continue until effective guarantees of security of the independence of nations have been given.’
