OBITUARY

THE REV. J. TAKLE Alter a short illness the Rev. John Takle, a retired Baptist minister, aged 69, died in hospital in Wellington on Saturday. He was born and trained in church work in New Zealand, being as a young man a prominent member of the Vivian Street Baptist Church in Wellington. He left the country in 1098 for Eastern Bengal, and, except for periods of furlough, worked there continuously until poor health caused him io retire and come back to New Zealand in 1922. At that time he was desperately ill, but he recovered, and since then, for the most part, he had taken temporary charge of small churches. While in the foreign mission field Mr. Takle made a special study of Mohammedanism, and he was the author of several booklets and articles on that and other Eastern religions. He was a member of the Missionary Society Council of the Baptist Church.

Mr. George William Lloyd, a leading worker in the interests of returned soldiers and a former president of the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association, died at his residence in Christchurch, recently, after a long illness.
