NEAR-CENTENARIANS

When Mr. Michael Groukowski celebrated his ninety-ninth birthday on Sunday. Mastcrton, within a week, had been the scene of the anniversaries iof three near-centenarians, whose ages totalled nearly HOG years. Two were celebrated at 95 years each earlier in the week. Mr. Groukowski arrived with his family in the Wairarapa 59 years ago and iived in Carterton, lie went to Mastcrton 14 years ago. Apart from a slight weakness of eyesight, he keeps excellent health. Before coming to New Zealand he had fought in three wars. As well as his own family ol' seven, Mr. Groukowski has seven grandchildren, and 1H greatgrandchildren.
