ANNUAL CLEAN UP

GISBORNE COLLECTIONS START MADE YESTERDAY Judging by the piles of old tins and other accumulated debris on the borough roadsides at present, the amount of material to be taken away by the Gisborne Borough Council’s carts in the annual clean up this week is smaller than usual, but it is believed that the quantity will be much the same as usual by the time the collections are completed. This opinion was expressed to-day by the borough engineer, Mr. E. R. Thomas, who staled that the quantity of material removed during the annual clean up weeks was much the same each year. When the annual collections commenced some years ago, an unusual amount was turned out by householders, but each year following there had been little variation. A start was made in Kaiti yesterday, and Whataupoko ivas attended to to-day, while Mangapapa and Te Hapara will Jollow to-morrow and Thursday respectively. The work will be completed on Friday and Monday with the town area and Victoria Township.
