CAULFIELD GUINEAS EFFORTLESS VICTORY RESPIRATOR SCORES HILTON TAKES MILE {Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 16, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 15. The weather was fine and cool for the opening day of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club’s meeting at Caulfield on Saturday. Panloon, who is raced and trained by Jack Fryer, finished strongly to win the 1010 Welter. John Dory was a promising third. Pantoon secured third places in his previous two starts and should prove a good stakewinner. Florin won the Debutant Stakes, for colts and geldings, in the last stride. He cost 300gns. as a yearling and was second at Flcmington last week. Procyon tried to lead throughout. Halifax, with a fast finishing effort, gained third money. Florin’s trainer, S. Murphy, won the Bebulant Stakes previously with Gay' Lover. Trueness, the Gimcrack Stakes winner, who finished brilliantly in tiie Debutante Stakes for fillies, has had two wins in two starts. She cost 550gns. as a yearling. Heart’s Desire ran a good race. Much To Say finished well. High Caste had an effortless victory in the Caulfield Guineas, making his third successive win. Pie cost £7OOO and has won approximately £II,OOO in stakes for his present owner. The trainer, J. T. Jamieson, won the Guineas previously with Ammon Ra. Reading tried to lead always, but was outclassed in the final stages. Zonda finished well. Glenfino and Wilson gave fair performances, while Pure Gold was a failure. High Caste has been unbeaten in four starts here. Respirator enhanced his Caulfield Cup chance by winning the Herbert Power Handicap. He was last in the early stages, but finished brilliantly and gave his rider, Bartle, his third successive win. Rivette, with 211 b. less in the CaulHeld Cup, pleased by to-day's effort, as also did Donor’s Hill, who finished well. .Ortelle’s Star disappointed. Netherlea was outclassed. Hilton, owned by the former New Zealander, Mr. W. R. Kcmball, finished brilliantly to win the Toorak Handicap. He was bred in New Zealand. Carpentier put up a good race. Geebung. who had an interrupted run, enhanced his Caulfield Cup prospects by finishing third. Tetreen was a disappointment. Results: —
