EMPIRE HEAVY TITLE M C CRE AD Y-BLOMFIELD WELLINGTON’S FIXTURE When “Lofty” Blomfield and Earl McCready meet in Wellington this evening in a match for the British Empire heavyweight wrestling title, held by the Canadian visitor, they will be providing the finale to the 1939 season in New Zealand. There nay be one or two matches left, but they are not in sight at the moment.
The Gisborne Wrestling Association is among the provincial wrestling aodies which have been affected by the New Zealand union's decision to dose down operations for the season, This association had' intended to promote a tournamnet. for next Saturday night, to cater for the race crowds, with a professional bout between Arthur Head. Gisborne, and Oscar Brock, Hawke’s Bay. The union's .advice that no more permits are being granted to provincial associations for his season has compelled the cancelation of this tournament.
In respect of to-night’s contest in Wellington, the fact that “Lofty” Blomfield has volunteered for active service, and consequently may not be available for the public ring for ionic time, adds special interest. McCready has been uniformly sifticess,'ul throughout the season, and' with Bhu Pinder in the country and appearing in the role of trial horse for he two bigger men, the rivalry of ilomficld and the Canadian champion has been followed with keener mterest that in earlier seasons.
