WAR-TORN COUNTRIES ROOSEVELT’S APPEAL (Rccd. Oct. 14, 9 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Oct. 12. President Roosevelt, in appealing for the co-ordination of the activities of groups aiding war sufferers with the Red Cross, said: “While the United States as a nation is neutral, she cannot'bc indifferent to the suffering of countries, particularly among women and children.

“The continuance of the war will result in more appalling sufferings needing relief in addition to the Red Cross. I hope that these groups will suonVment and not conflict with the established agencies.”

The s'ed Cross has announced the appropriation of £200,000 for immediate European War Relief. Gifts for this purpose since the beginning of the war total £40,000 including a Polisli Alliance donation of £30.000.
