W.I. BIRTHDAY PARTY (Herald Correspondent.) A very pleasant social afternoon was spent in the Y.M.C.A. Hall, Bartletts, on Wednesday, when the Wharerata Women’s Institute paid a visit to the Bartletts Women’s Institute, the occasion being the latter’s first birthday party. Several diverting competitions were enjoyed by the guests. For the fix'st competition members were required to name book titles from artistically illustrated cards prepared by Mrs. King and Miss Pauline Bell. Mrs. A. West emerged the winner, with Mrs. B. Jones second. The winners of other competitions and games were:—Mystery Parcel. — Mrs. B. Jones. Quoits. —Mrs. Briffault. Sambo.—Mrs. K. Muir. Mesdames King and Briffault acted as hostesses and served informally a delectable afternoon tea. Among those present were Mesdames Swarbrick, West, Jones, Clark, Bushnell, and Maguinness; Misses A. West and J. Bushnell, Wharerata; Mesdames French, King, Breingan, Bel], Mulligan, Briffault, Fouhy, E. Borst, Phipps, Clanachan, Ching, Feasey, Brizzcll, Bobbins and Muir; Misses Todd and J. Clanachan.
Mr. A. Hosking, who has been on Ihe staff of the Bartletts School for the past 18 months, has been transferred to Kotemaori and left for his new position as sole charge teacher on Wednesday. On Tuesday morning Mr. Citing, headmaster, and flic other members of the stall entertained Mr. Hosking at morning tea. His notice of transfer was short and time did not permit the pupils to farewell him as they wished. However, they are forwarding him a parting gift. Master Roy King is an inmate of the Cook Hospital.
