RETURN FROM CRUISE
PACIFIC ISLES VOYAGE SEAWARD BACK HOME (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. After a cruise to New Caledonia and Loyalty Islands, the Auckland-owned ketch Seaward arrived yesterday from Brisbane, whence she sailed on September 12. The crew comprise Captain Dick, Wellington, Messrs. B. Archer and J. Bartlett, Auckland, J. Smith, Brisbane, H. T. Gutward, Fiji. On the Loyalty Islands cruise, two members of the crew, Messrs. Pat Chaldercott and Bud Robins, both of Auckland, contracted coral poisoning, and returned home by steamer from Noumea. They were replaced by other men. Nearing the New Zealand coast i whale passed a few feet from the bow. A member of the crew, who was attempting to secure a photograph from the bowspit was so frightened by the whale’s dive under the ship that he nearly fell overboard in attempting to regain the deck. Only once during the voyage were the seas so rough as to cause alarm. In Havana Pass, Noumea, fierce gales blew out the head sails and storm trysail.
