LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY
REPORT OF SUB-BRANCH PROSPECTS FOR SEASON “The prospects for the season, in view of the outbreak of war, cannot be said to be rosy, but there is no reason why the society’s work should not be carried on to the full at least in the schools,” states the annual report to be presented on Thursday, October 19, at the annual meeting of the Gisborne sub-branch of the Royal LifeSaving Society. The activities of the sub-branch were well maintained, although the number of awards granted was not as large as for last year, particulars being as follows: Awards of Merit, including bars, 3; bronze medallions, including bars, 37; proficiency certificates, 41; elementary certificates, 1. A high standard of efficiency was maintained by the examiners. The finances were stated to be in a healthy position, the credit balance being £lB 5s sd, as compared with £l2 16s 3d at the beginning of the season. Thanks were expressed to the press for its assistance during the season, to the following for their continued interest during the year: Miss N. Hayes and Mr. E. L. Adams, of the Gisborne High School, Mrs. Richardson, Te Reinga, Mr. Moverley, Te Karaka, and other patrons and supporters.
