YOUNG FARMERS

WAIROA CLUB MEETS SERIES OF DEBATES (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. A letter was received at the monthly meeting of the Wairoa Young Farmers’ Club on Wednesday evening from the Wairoa 'County Agricultural and Pastorial Society drawing the club’s attention to the very small entries in the special Young Farmers’ Club classes la the' Show schedule. . Members discussed ways and means of improving the entries and it was decided to communicate with the Farmers’ Union with a view to arranging an inter-club contest in the wool class between the two bodies. After considerable discussion on the question of debates, it was decided to conduct a series of three short debates at the next meeeting on November 8. Six teams of three members will compete, the various teams being 'Awamate-Turiroa, Opoiti, Clydebank, Frasertown, Ardkeen and Tawhara. The subject will be the same for all teams, “That top dressing is the ' only practicable method of improving second class hill country.” After each debate time will be allowed members to discuss the question, the object of this move being to gain sufficient material for a lecture to be delivered by the Wairoa club from station 2YA, Wellington. Members were advised that at present alt arrangements for . the holding of the centennial camp in Wellington were proceeding as scheduled. The camp will be held during February and March and the cost per member would be £3 a week.
