RATANA MOVEMENT
SELECTION OF LEADER BALLOT TO BE HELD Since the death of Mr. T. W. Ratana on September 18 followers of the Ratana movement have been consulted as to who should wear the mantle of the Maori prophet. The logical successor, it was held, should be Mr. 11. T. Ratana, M.P., a son of the dead leader, but he opposed that suggestion and said that it was the right of tile people to select their own leader. To enable this to be done a ballot will be taken among members of the movement throughout the Dominion. Two other-Maori members of Parliament, Mr. E. T. Tirikatene (South(Northern Maori), have been associ(Northern aMori), have been associated with tlie Ratana movement almost since its inception and have been prominent in administering its affairs. Mr. Paikea was at one time personal secretary to the late Mr. Ratana, and Mr. Tirikatene, although a South Island Maori, lived at Ratana for several years and took a prominen part in the proceedings in the settlement. It is expected that the new leader of the movement will be announced at the end of this month.
