FLEMINGTON RACES
N.Z. YOUNGSTERS FAIL (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 9, 9 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 8. New Zealand-brecl youngsters failed to show up in the four divisions of the Maribyrnong Trial, the first juvenile race of the season, at Flemington on Saturday. The imported sire Gay Lothario was credited with two wins, including the lucrative Procyon, a second with Tranquil Star, and a third with Savaterie. The New Zealand-bred Cape Race and Glenlonan fought out an exciting finish in the Hurdles for the former to win by a neck. Border Lass directed attentions to her chance in the Oaks by a strong finish in the Manifold Stakes, which event often proves a reliable guide to the Oaks. Zonda ran a game race, but was outstayed by the winner. Snowwhite was a fast-finishing third. Like the winner, she is a daughter of Gay Lothario. Manrico led alvvqys in the Melbourne Slakes. This was trainer J. Holt’s eighth win in this race. Glcnfino surprised by running second. Hilton ran a game third, but had no chance with the winner. H. Badger rode his fourth successive winner, Carpcntier, in the Stand Handicap. He scored previously on Procyon, Border Lass and Manrico. Carpcntier improved on his recent form and enhanced his Caulfield Cup chance. Elange was with the leaders at the straight entrance, but weakened. Maikai finished well in second place. The pacemaker, Danis Giri, finished third.
