OPEN-AIR MEETINGS
COMMUNISTS BANNED PACIFISTS ALLOWED The Communist Party will not have the privilege of holding open-air meetings in Christchurch during the war period. Also under the same ban is the Anti-Conscription League. The Christian Pacifist League, on the ' other hand, will be allowed to hold j its open-air meetings on Friday evenj ings as usual. 1 The Christchurch City Council reached these decisions after a long discussion. This was the second fulldress debate on the subject, for the matter was referred to the by-laws committee for consideration three weeks ago. The committee’s recommendation, that, all applications-to hold open-air meetings, other than those of religious organisations, should be declined during the war period, was defeated and an amendment, that each application be considered on its merits, was carried.
