FATE OF U.S. VESSEL WASHINGTON NOTIFIED PLANS FOR ESCORT (Eli.t. Tel. <'opyi'Lht—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Oct. 6, 1.50 p.rn.) NEW YORK. Oct. 5. The Washington correspondent of the Associated Press of America says it is officially stated from White House that Admiral Raecler, the head of the German Navy, informed the United Slates that the American steamship Iroquois, carrying Americans from Europe, would toe sunk when she nears the .American east coast. Before issuing the statement at White House, an official said the matter was fully discussed by the Cabinet, which had decided that the facts should toe publicised. The official added that Admiral Raeder had advised that the sinking would be accomplished through a repetition of the circumstances marking the loss of the British ship Athenia. Coastguard vessels and navy patrols are meeting the Iroquois at sea and accompanying her to port. The master has been advised by wireless and asked to make a* most careful search for explosives. Britain and France have also been advised.
