MARINE DRIVE
NEGOTIATIONS COMPLETE WORK STARTS MONDAY GENEROUS GIFTS MADE A start will be made on Monday with the centennial marine drive in Gisborne, according to an announcement made last evening at a meeting o’f the executive of the Gisborne Thirty-Thousand Club.
The chairman, Mr. James Chrisp, said that arrangements for the purchase of two sections near the gaol had been completed by Mr. A. J. Cox and that the extension of Salisbury road to the waterfront was now possible. The drive will skirt the shore from a point near the gaol to the abattoirs. When the report of the negotiations was being made it was mentioned that the purchase of the land had been made possible by the generous action of a Gisborne citizen. It was resolved to make application for a subsidy to assist financially in the levelling of the newly-acquired sections.
An offer by Mr.'W. Mcllwaine to provide the cost of a day’s work on the levelling of the land was accepted with thanks.
