STRONG PROTEST

SUNDAY CELEBRATIONS MINISTERS’ RESOLUTIONS “We strongly protest against the action of the Labour Day Celebrations Committee in arranging for, and the Gisborne Borough Council in sanctioning, the holding of a procession through the main street and public meetings on the Sunday preceding Labour Day. In view of the fact that the Monday is set aside by the Government for Labour Day celebrations we hold that there is no justification for such encroachment on the Lord’s Day.” This motion was carried unanimously at the monthly meeting yesterday of the Gisborne Ministers’ Association. The Rev. H. Speight, president ot the association, was in the chair and the gathering was representative of the various churches in Gisborne. It was decided to send a copy of the resolution to the Labour Day Celebration Committee, to the Gisborne Borough Council, and to the Trades and Labour Council in Wellington.
