DEATH OF MR. J. EVANS
GREAT WAR RECORD (JVr Pw»Bh Assorintion.) 4 DUNEDIN, this day. The death occurred yesterday after a long illness of Mr. James Evans, a director of Ross and Glendining, and chairman of the executive of the New Zealand Woollen Mill Owners’ Association. He had a distinguished military carere. He left with the Auckland draft of the sixth reinforcements in August, 1915. as adjutant. He was promoted to the rank of captain and attached to the Auckland Infantry Regiment, and was wounded and gassed at Passchendaele on October 17. 1917, and was awarded the military cross for his services in that battle. He returned to France after a long period in hospital and was awarded a bar to the military cross at Crevecour in the attack on the Ilindenburg Line in September, 1918. The deceased was unmarried.
