VICEROY AND LEADERS
CONSULTATIONS PROCEED ‘•RED” STRIKE FIASCO ATTEMPT IN BOMBAY (Elec. Tull Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RUGB, Oct. 4. It is reported from India that on Monday Congress Party leaders were granted an interview with the Viceroy, Lord Linlithgow, which lasted for two hours. It is understood that no final conclusions were reached as other political leaders are to be seen by the Viceroy. The postponement of the All-India Congress Committee meeting until Monday is thought to be due to the continued presence in Delhi of Mr. Gandhi and other important leaders who are in conference. Meanwhile, the Bombay Communist “Red Flag” union attempted to call out ,the cotton mill workers in the Bombay presidency on a one-day strike as a protest against the war which proved a failure, only 50,000 workers out of a total of 250,000 being affected. No strikes occurred in the mill centres outside Bombay City.
