The first four shifts which brought the earliest overseas settlers are seen at anchor. From the earliest times the Union Bank has been associated with' Wellington. The first Manager arrived in the ship "Glenbervie" on 7th March, 1840, and the Bank —the first in New Zealandwas opened at Britannia (Petone) seventeen days later. A few months later a move was made to Wellington. Throughout the decades since those pioneering days * the Bank has been to ,the forefront in assisting stable ■ development.
