WEALTH OF BRITAIN proposalHby labour (Reed. Oct. 4, 1.50 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 3. In the House of Commons to-day, Dr. H. Dalton (Lab., Bishop Auckland)) urged the immediate imposition of an annual capital tax by which a levy of 1 per cent on 50,000 people possessing £50,000 and upwards each would yield £80,000,000, and a levy of 1 per cent on 120,000 people possessing over £20,000 would yield £100,000,000. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon, replied that they could not have both death duties and annual contributions from capital He was still endeavouring to devise a practical levy on war-time increases in wealth.
