A further message from Oslo states i that Germany has sent a note to Nor- | v/ay warning shipping against susj picious actions in the vicinity of Uj boats. : a communique issued in London by j the Ministry of Information stales I that a U-boat torpedoed the FinI nish steamer Walma, off Sweden. The vessel was laden with cellulose dej = lined for Britain. The U-boat com- | mancler handed over a certificate stating: “Destroyed cn account of the : destination of the cargo.” A Stockholm message states that a i German warship seized the Swedish Alio, Korsholm, proceeding from Finland to Delaware with woodpulp ; paper, and took her to a ; port. Germany has not replied to the Dan- | ish protest against the sinking of the | Ver.dia. j The Rio de Janiero correspondent ;of the New York Times claims it is definitely- established that the Ad- - ir.iral Scheer sank the Clement. Three j sources, besides the correspondent’s own most reliable information, confirm this. It is reported that the warship fir.ed 25 shots into the freighter : before torpedoing her. Survivors from the Clement said [hat between Pernambuco and Maceio . they heard motors and saw an aero- . oin'ne circling overhead. The plane’s ! machine-guns were fired. Then the warship came into .view. It halted the Clement and sent a boat across and ordered the crew to take to the boats. The warship took the captain of the Clement aboard. The Clement j sank in 45 minutes.
