POLISH SHIP
PURSUIT ESCAPED MINE BELT PIERCED GOTLAND REACHED SWEDISH ESCORT (Reed. Oct. 5. 11.50 a.m.) • LONDON, Oct. 4. The Stockholm correspondent of The Times says that the Polish patrol ship Batory, arrived at Gotland Island from Hela with 18 people aboard, including high officers. The Batory and two other steamers left Hela on October I,' penetrated the German' mine belts and escaped pursuit. The Batory lost contact with the others and exhausted her oil supplies off Gotland. A Swedish destroyer towed her to Wisby. A communique issued in Berlin by the German High Command states that the German naval forces have stopped 72 ships since September 30. The Copenhagen correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain says that the Germans captured the Swedish steamer Themis bound for Norway with grain.
