A former Mayor of Wanganui, Mr. Hope Gibbons, celebrated his eightyfourth birthday on Tuesday. Mr. O. K. Tennent, manager of the Dunedin branch of the Bank of Australasia, will leave shortly to take up the position of manager in Wellington, Mr. A. C. St. Paul, who has been manager of the bank’s branch in Hamilton for the past four years, has been promoted to the Dunedin branch in Mr. Tennent’s place. The Rev. C. H. Ritchie, rector of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church, Edinburgh, and Sandford Canon in the Cathedral Church of St. Mary, Edinburgh, has been appointed Archdeacon of Northumberland and Canon of Newcastle Cathedral, and the appointment Las been approved by the King. Canon Ritchie is a native of New Zealand, where he spent the first 20 years ot his life.

Dr. Malcolm Sargent, the conductor of the Royal London Choral Society, is again in Australia. He conducted a performance of “The Creation” in Brisbane on Saturday week, and this month he is to conduct the costume performance of “Hiawatha" in Melbourne. According to recent letters there is little, possibility of his coming to New Zealand professionally next year. He is leaving for England as soon as possible after his Melbourne engagements.
