PIGEON RACE
FAST FLIGHT MADE RACE FROM MASTERTON The fourth old bird race was flown from Masterton on Saturday, the airline distance being 203 miles. Liberated at 8.30 a.m., the birds were helped along by a tail wind and reached home much earlier than was expected. The winner, J. McLean’s bird was timed in at 12.24 p.m. It established a flying time of 3 hours 54minutcs. and a velocity of 1523.0 yards per minute. Details of the first six birds home were: —J. McLean’s bird, 1523.0yds per min., 1; R. Hall’s bird. 1518.8yds. per min., 2; C. Waldock’s bird, 1513.0 yds. per min., 3; R. Hall’s bird, 1511.8 vds. per min., 4; A. O’Neill's bird. 1501.9yds per min., 5; J. McLean’s bird, 1498.1yd5. per min., 6. The following lofts also were represented. —A. McLaughlan, M. Quinn, M. Roydes, T. Crosby, and D. Sommerville’s lofts.
Next week an old bird race will be flown from Johnsonville, an airline distance of 250 miles, and a junior race from Takapau, an airline distance of 136 miles.
