. FAREWELL AT HALL TOWN-AREA DRIVE Troops leaving Gisborne early tomorrow morning -for Trcntham and Burnham camps, to join the main body of the Special New Zealand Military Force, will board buses at the Abercorn Hall at 2 o’clock approximately. The route of departure from the town will be- by way of Ormond road, Fitzherbert street, Peel street and Gladstone road.
By arrangement between the Gisborne Borough Council and the Poverty Bay Electric-Power Board, the lighting system in the business area will be in full operation until 3 a.m., to permit of the assembly of the public in order to farewell the troops, and their subsequent dispersal to their homes.
This arrangement has been made at the request of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, which is sponsoring a parade of ex-servicemen, called for 1.30 a.m., to do honour to the men who are taking up the country’s call in this war.
Territorials who are in possession of uniforms and kit as serving members of defence units will take, these into camp with them. Others in the main body detachment will not be issued with uniforms or other items of equipment until they reach camp, where the ordnance stores arc located now. They are required only to take changes of socks and underclothing, which will be returned to their homes as soon as the issue of uniforms is completed.
