CHANGSHA BATTLE
CONFLICTING REPORTS CHINESE RESISTANCE (Reed. Oct. 2, 2.50 p.m.) SHANGHAI, Oct. 1. Japanese military dispatches state that the capture of Changsha is expected momentarily. The Japanese claim to be repulsing Chinese attacks adjacent to Hong Kong. The Hong Kong correspondent of the United Press, however, reports that the Chinese were still attacking at 8 p.m. on Sunday. It is believed that the attacks are designed to relieve the pressure on Changsha and to forestall the Japanese northward drive along the southern section of the Hankow-Can-ton railway.
