GROW VEGETABLES

INVERGARGILL EFFORT USE FOR CITY PARKS ■A practical move made by the Invercargill City Council for the growing of vegetables on some of its spare land was characterised by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, as a local body effort meriting high commendation in these days when additional supplies of foodstuffs were as necessary as they were desirable. The Auncil had shown not only foresight and enterprise, but a praiseworthy interest in the needs of the people. "An appeal 'o citizens," Mr. Parry s">id, "for an intensive cultivation of the product's of the kitchen garden was made but a week ago. Already in Invercargill the preparation for vegetables (potatoes, swedes, cabbages and carrots) has almost been completed of some 45 acres of the city’s parks and reserves. That is a prac”4ca:l effort in achievement which carries a fine message to local bodies and the people of the Dominion.’’
