WET OR DRY CANTEENS
CONFERENCE HELD VIEWS OP CHURCHES (Special to the Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. Representatives of various social organisations, including the -Young Men’s Christian Association, the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, the Salvation Army, the New Zealand Alliance and churches, as well as staff officers of the three services, conferred informally with the Cabinet to-day on the question of establishing wet or dry canteens in military camps in New Zealand. The conference was called at the instigation of the acting-Prime Minister, the Hon. P. Fraser, to learn the opinions held by various organisations interested in this subject. In many cases the views expressed at the conference were those of individuals, and did not in any way commit their organisations. Mr. Fraser said that after the conference the question had been discussed from all angles, no decision being reached, -this being entirely a matter for the Government.
