SEPTEMBER CUSTOMS PAYMENTS AT GISBORNE OVER £IO,OOO IN DUES Customs dues paid at Gisborne in September broke all records for the district office, £10,373 being paid in dues on imports during that period. The comparative figure for 1938 was £4590, which was above the average for September, so far as the postslump years are concerned at least.
‘lncreases in revenue were shown in all three main groups, by comparison with those for the same month of last year. The total payments under the headings of customs duties, beer excise and sales tax for the month were £13,768, as against £7496 in September, 1938, while for the nine months of the current year so far expired the aggregate payments are a long yvay ahead of those made during the first nine months of last year. Collections at the Gisborne office for the month, with those for last September. .were:—
