MEN “EQUAL TO ANY”
N.Z. SPECIAL FORCE NEED FOR EFFICIENCY (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Addressing officers and non-com-missioned officers for that part of the special force to be trained at Trentham, Colonel Puttick, O.C. of the Central Military District, said that war demands efficiency, especially efficiency 'in leaders. "We need have no doubts about the quality of the men," he said. “They can be equal to any in the world, and there is, therefore, a necessity that the leaders should, as far as possible, measure up to the same heights. So far as I have any part in this I'orce, I would like to make it clear that no considerations whatever, other than those of efficiency in officers and n.c.o.’s, will have any influence on me, but if, in my opinion an officer or n.c.o. is not up to the standard required, I shall have no hesitation Whatsoever in taking him away and substituting a better man.
