PEACE PLANS
RUMOURS REVIVED REPORTED NEW APPROACH LONDON. Sept. 17. Rumours and reports of peace plans continue to circulate. The diplomatic correspondent of The People states that he has received from a reliable source abroad news that Herr Hitler within a few days will put forward peace proposals from a new angle through the Vatican.
He declares that the proposals will have as the first object the winning over to the Nazi regime the support of world Catholic opinion, and adds that Herr Hitler already has asked Signor Mussolini to back his campaign. Cardinal Innitzer, the Austrian ecclesiastic, is stated to be acting as a link between Berlin and Rome.
It is stated that Herr Hitler may offer Rome lhe restoration of all Catholic property and full freedQm to the Catholic Youth and other movements. He may seek the revision of the. German-Russian Pact. He may offer to put an end to Nazi military activities and withdraw his armies to the former Polish-German frontier. He may also relinquish all colonial claims.
