TOKOMARU, BAY CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED SEASON ENDS THIS WEEK r (Special to the Herald.) TOKOMARU BAY, this day. The Tokomaru Bay Badminton Club's season is drawing to a close and the past few playing nights have been taken up with the completion of the club championships. All titles are now won and the club will finish its season this week. ! In the ladies' doubles event Misses £). Pepper and M. Atkins defeated Mrs.. It. Gardner and Miss M. Nevin in tile final. This was three sets of 1,1 and the first went to the eventual winners 11—5. In the second set Mrs. Gardner and Miss Nevin. picked up well and had little difficulty in taking it 11 —5. They could not hold their burst and lost* the third set 3—ll. , The men’s doubles went to S. LyleSsm.vthe and K. Oates, who defeated H. Gardner and D. Felton in the final. In the first set of. 15 the going was even and eventually went to Oates and his partner 15 —12. In the second set Gardner and Felton had their own way and took the game with only four points against them The final set, however, turned the fables and Lyle-Smythe and Oates if/on 15—7.

The combined doubles produced some of the closest games of the tournament. Felton and Miss Nevin, both of whom figured in other finals, had a hard fig'ht in the first round against A. Beechey and Miss J. Mitchell, taking the game 24—22. Another even game, on the other side of the draw, was ’that between W. Sutherland and Miss Pepper and LyleSmythe and Mrs, C. Squire, who won 24—19, after the game was set at 19 —all. In the final Felton and Miss Nevin met Lyle-Smythe and Miss Squire in a very closely-fought threeset match. The first set was evenly contested and after reaching 13-all Felton and Miss Nevin took the game 15 —13. The second set went to LyleSmythe and Mrs. Squire 15 —7, but the third set produced some fast rallies and the issue was in doubt right up to the last second.
