GERMAN FREIGHTERS
AUSTRALIAN SAILINGS TWO AT NEUTRAL PORTS ' SYDNEY, Sept. 19. Of the four German freighters which disappeared off the Australian coast just before the outbreak of war, two have now been accounted for .at neutral ports.
The Lahit <8,493 tons), which slipped out of Sydney Harbour without a clearance early on the morning of August 20, has now been reported at Taicahuaho in Chile
The Stassful’t (7,395 tons) is novv at the port of Tjilitjap in Java. She left Port Pirie, South Australia, on August 23. but failed to arrive at Melbourne on August 25, according • to schedule.
The other two ships which have not vet been reported are the Erlangen ((>.lOl tons) and the Cassel (0,047 tons).
The Erlrngen was due to arrive at Port Kembla from Dunedin, at the end of August. She was reported to be short of fuel. It is now thought likely that a rendezvous between the Latin and the Erlangen was arranged so that seme of the fuel on the Lahn could be transferred to enable (lie Erlangen !o reach a South American port. The Cassel disappeared from the south-western corner of Australia, and may be one of the 13 German Clips .sheltering at Java.
