TROUT FISHING SEASON
OPENING TO-MOREOW DEMAND FOR LICENSES OOOD SPORT PROMISED For the trout fishing season, which i.s to open to-morrow, good sport is promised in the ' Gisborne district. The fish are reported to toe plentiful. particularly in the Ifangaroa River, 1 and they are generally '• in good condition. It. is expected that this week’s rain will not have affected the position to any degree! ’' A •satisfactory demand' ior licenses has been made during the past leys. days, and although it is expected "that the petrol restrictions will affect the sport somewhat, several parties have made arrangements to fish' to-morrow in some of the streams ”ift the district.
If the amount of fishing done this season is less than usual, anglers will have the 'satisfaction of knowing that the .sport will be better in..subsequent seasons, more particularly as, the streams have been regularly stocked during the past few seasons. This year 300,000 trout were liberated in the district, 237,500 being rainbow and 02,500 brown. They were distributed 1 as follows: —Wharekopae Stream, 25,000 each of rainbow and brown; Ruakituri Stream, 75,000 rainbow; Hangaroa River, 100,000’rainbow; < oranea Stream, 37,500 rainbow; Motu River, 37,500 brown.
