MARRIAGES DOUBLED
SEPTEMBER FIGURES CHRTSTCH UKCII RETURNS (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The number of marriage licenses issued in Christchurch during September this year more than doubled the total for the corresponding month iast year. In September, 1938, there were 100. Marriages by the registrar this month totalled 44. compared with 28 for the period last year. A substantial increase is also shown in the number of births for the month compared with last year, the totals' being, 1939, 249; 1938, 193. There were 133 deaths during the men’h, compared with 194 last year.
