SHORTAGE OF FODDER
EFFECT IN HAWKE’S BAY 4000 CATTLE SLAUCTITERED That the . comparatively seriousshortage of cattle fodder at present existing throughout Hawke’s Bay would be of value to farmers, in that it would bring home to them the need for establishing natural supplementary reserves in future lo guard against a hard winter such as that just experienced, is the opinion of Mr. J. W. Palmer, Government agriculture instructor in Hastings. This season no fewer than 4000 head of yearling cattle had been slaughtered in the province, merely because of difficulty in carrying them through the winter.
