NO SHIP FOR INDIA
CLERIC UNABLE TO SAIL RETURN TO DOMINION (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Having been unable to find a ship to take him to India, the Rt. Rev. T. E. Riddle, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, has returned to Auckland. Mr. Riddle left by the Mariposa for Sydney just before England’s declaration that a state of war existed with Germany, and he found on arrival at Melbourne that the shipping service to India had been considerably reduced. Mr. Riddle represented his church as a fraternal delegate to the triennial assembly of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, and then decided to postpone his plans for returning to India, whence he came to New Zealand and came back to Auckland. He will fulfil various duties of his office until November, when he hopes to be able to arrange a passage to India.
