AIR LINER IN SWAMP
SAFE SANDING EFFECTED (Reed. Sept. 29, 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 29. The Douglas airliner, which was forced down In bad weather yesterday while on the way to Brisbane, was carrying eight passengers and a crew of three. The machine came down in a shallow swamp adjoining Cook's River. Had it landed in the river, experts think it would have turned over and all the occupants possibly trapped and drowned. On the other hand the shallow water had a cushioning effect sufficient to retard the forward movement when it landed safely.
