OFFICER M.P. FAREWELLED
ALLEN FAMILY EXAMPLE
The Ngatea Hall was well filled when members of the National Party tendered a farewell to Major J. M. Allen, M.P., prior to his going into camp.
Mr Hugh Dent, chairman of the Hauraki electorate executive, referred to Major Allen’s services as member for the district and felt sure he would carry out his military duties equally as well. Major Allen was setting a good example to the younger men and the services of his late father during the Great War and those of his uncle, Sir Stephen Allen, who again had taken up military duty, would not be readily forgotten. Major Allen said he realised that he had a good example to follow. Political differences must be forgotten at present, he added, and the duty of all was to work toward winning the war foi democracy. Major Allen was presented with a travelling rug and bag.
