AGONISING INJURIES

ACCIDENT TO FARMER CAUGHT UNDER ROLLER (Per Pross Association.) CARTERTON, this day. A terribly painful accident befcl Thomas Hicks, a farmer, Mataraw’a, yesterday. He was engaged in rolling a paddock when, the horses bolted. Mr. Hicks was thrown to tine ground and ■the roller passed over him. His right arm was terribly crushed, the skin from the shoulder to the hand being completely torn open and the muscles and tissue's wrenched from the bone. The injured man was admitted to Croydon Private Hospital, but it is ■problematical whether his arm can toe saved. It is Mr. Hicks’ sixtysecond birthday to-day.
